Look Ahead: Local events and things to do this week, June 11-17

Arts in the Alleyway, Ringo Starr, Garbage, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, and a rock-reggae show.

Celebrating Central 9th

The first Arts in the Alleyway event, a cultural event for Central 9th neighborhood, is happening Sunday, noon to 8 p.m., at Scion Cider Bar, 916 S. Jefferson St. W., Salt Lake City. The event will feature music and entertainment, and interactive art stations by local artists — including live wheel demos from Salt Lake Pottery Studio, make-your-own resin pendants with Skyler Wefer, and a chanced to customize your own Scion Cider t-shirt from a hand-carved block made by Hex Press Printing. Lunch specials will be available from noon to 4, with a full menu available from Laziz Kitchen. Admission is free; you must be 21 or older to attend.

Ringo or Noel Gallagher?

Tuesday offers a choice between two concerts featuring performers from a previous decade. Two ‘90s-adjacent alt-rock bands — Garbage and High Flying Birds (the latter the creation of Oasis founder Noel Gallagher) — will co-headline at Usana Amphitheatre, 5150 S. 6055 West, West Valley City; show starts at 7 p.m., with opening act Metric; tickets are available at Ticketmaster. Over at the Eccles Theatre, 131 S. Main, Salt Lake City, former Beatle Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band (including former Men at Work frontman Colin Hay) will perform, starting at 7:30 p.m.; the show is sold out.

June 17

Reggae at Granary Live

Salt Lake City’s newest concert venue — Granary Live at 742 S. 500 West — will get a workout Saturday, with a show headlined by the reggae rock band Dirty Heads. Also on the bill: Yelawolf, G. Loved & Special Sauce and Tropidelic. Show starts at 5 p.m. Tickets, starting at $40, are available at granarylive.com.
